Since ancient times, human civilization has thrived on various forms of energy, many of which are sourced directly from nature. These are known as Primary Energy sources, harvested straight from the environment. Primary energy includes:
Fossil Fuels (Conventional):
1.1 Coal
1.2 Hydrocarbons (Petroleum Oil and Natural Gas)
Nuclear Energy
Renewable Energy (Non-conventional) - A form of energy which is derived from replenish-able natural sources:
3.1 Solar energy from the Sun
3.2 Wind power from wind
3.3 Hydroelectric power from rivers
3.4 Geothermal energy from hot springs
3.5 Tidal power from tides
3.6 Biofuels from biomass
Though all of Biofuels come from biomass, based on their sources, they are of different types:
Bioethanol
Biodiesel
Biogas or Compressed Bio Gas (CBG)
Biohydrogen from algae
Synthesis Gas or Syngas etc.
Electricity generated by consuming any of these primary sources is referred to as secondary energy. For example, electricity generated by combustion of coal is a secondary energy while the hydro-electricity produced from dams and barrages are primary energy.
Kumar, an energy philatelist, collects postage stamps from around the world that are related to primary energy sources. In discussions about energy, it is also essential to consider themes like energy conservation, the impact of emissions from energy consumption, and environmental protection.
For an energy philatelist, the focus is on primary energy, while secondary energy, such as electricity, is typically excluded from the collection.
